I’m in Solvang, CA this past week on a ride camp — 7 days of uninterrupted cycling happiness over 370-ish miles.
As the only woman in the group, the dudes first looked at me with skeptical eyes. Until we hit the climbs.
It was quite a blast to keep up with three 6’2″ athletic big boys who have thighs the size of Texas.
After a day of climbing Mount Figueroa (5,500′,) apparently, I got the thumbs up because two bottles of ice-cold beer later, we became hot tub + margarita buddies.
Pondering how the drinks are covering the calories burnt during the first hour of the ride ;)
That probably drives some calorie-counting dieters nuts.
Somewhere along the way, we were told that “liquid calories” are evil. So evil.
But in the right place at the right time… they are so good, oh so good.
I used to be one of those calories-counters. I was a chubby kid. I had a chip on my shoulder.
I have denied myself a good post-ride ice-cold beer for too long.
Then I realized if I don’t get that beer, I’d inhale a muffin and a cookie. And I don’t get half the satisfaction.
How You Do YOU In Your Business Is Nobody Else’s Business
There’s this invisible box we’re conditioned to stay in. Good/bad is predefined. What’s “being appropriate” is spoon fed to us.
We fail to question it because we are blind to the box.
What have you been told to do, that’s actually not bringing you happiness and satisfaction?
Satisfaction from expressing our originality and creativity. Satisfaction from telling our truth and creating meaning.
Have you been told to write or say certain things in order to “build a business”, “look professional” or “get the clients”?
Have you been putting out words that don’t reflect who you are because hey, “they’re just words?” (But in fact, the words you use reflect back to you what you stand for and give you a feedback loop to gain clarity.)
Have you stopped chasing the creativity tingle and hide THAT story you really want to tell?
Get solid on your message. Get clear on what’s true for you. Get unapologetic about what brings you meaning and satisfaction.
Because what’s the point if you’re braving it all without doing what’s meaningful for YOU?
Talk about it. Write about it. Make it real for you so you can make it real for those who need to hear your message.
